Create an emergency preparedness plan.
Having an infant has made me acutely aware of all the dangers in my house. In particular, the risk of choking, be it on ‘baby led weaning’ food items or random items in the house.
There is only so much you can do to prevent this. I’m much more comfortable with purées than the ‘baby led weaning’ which means giving them bigger pieces and letting them figure it out in a safe way. There are also special soothers that exist where you can place the food item in it and the baby can safely chew and suck on it without the risk of choking.
Still nervous though, I decided to get a device that can pump out a blocked item if really something does get stuck. It puts my mind at ease a bit as we navigate the dangers of coffee table corners and baby gates to block off stairs.
Hoping I’ll never need this – here is what this device looks like !
