Summer Haze

We’re in the middle of a heat wave and it’s giving cravings of big watermelon slices, corn on the BBQ, toddlers running wild through the sprinkler.

Summer is in full swing now and I realize I planted my vegetables a little too late this year. Yes it’s growing, the beans, the lettuce, what have you, but I’m craving that first semi-ripe tomato that just tastes better when it’s from your own backyard.

Last year I grew it all from seeds, but this year, with a toddler running amok, it’s hard to find a place where the seedlings get watered regularly and are still in the general vicinity, versus being placed away from said toddler and also slightly forgotten. Next year I’ll do better. But for this year, what grows outside is what you get!

I am particularly excited about having planted peonies and hydrangeas this year though. They are some of my absolute favourite flowers and just knowing they will come back each and every year gives the whole process a whole new meaning.

What is something you’re wanting to plant this year?

Cheers,

MJ
